When people initially consider Nordic walking, they may be attracted by its many physical benefits:

  • Engaging up to 90% of our muscles.
  • Burning up to 46% more calories than you would when walking ordinarily.
  • Turning a walk into a complete body workout.


But what about the less measurable benefits?

For me, the less tangible aspects are as important as the physical benefits. Nordic walking ‘novices’ have become firm friends, and our walks cement these friendships. We chew the cud whilst walking, put the world to rights, have a laugh, and continue to do so in the café or pub at the end of the walk.

We also come together outside of our set classes and walks; our Nordic walks are less about needing to maintain our fitness levels and more about spending quality time with friends.
